Have you ever needed that splash of color to accent a drab and boring space?  Container gardens are your answer.  They are the drama queens of the garden.  They can be an exclamation point at the end of a pathway, or add softness in an area with too much hardscape. The containers can be the focus with bright colored pottery and mosaic rims, or they can be understated and let the plants themselves be the stars. In cottage gardening, containers are even used in garden beds to fill in during a lull in perennial color.  Elevated, they can bring height and scale into a garden room.

There is a rule of thumb in container gardening:

*You need a thriller plant, a plant to draw interest.  They are usually the tallest plant, and the most showy.
*You need a filler plant, one that stays in bloom most of the time.  Shorter than the thriller, but full, covering most of the center of the pot.
* And last but not least, you need a spiller plant.  This plant will be your waterfall.  It will soften the edges of the pot, and allow the eye to take in the whole planting.
